Income tax under the Income-tax Act 2025
The Income-tax Act 2025 came into force on 1 April 2026 and repealed the 1961 Act. Rates and thresholds carried over almost unchanged, but every section number moved — 44AB is now section 63, the presumptive provisions are consolidated into section 58, and "assessment year" has been replaced by a single "tax year".
That renumbering is the practical problem of 2026-27. People still search by the old numbers, returns filed with old section codes fail validation, and a good deal of published content has not been updated. We reference both throughout.
