ITR-1 Filing (Salary + Other Income)

For salaried individuals and pensioners with income up to the prescribed limit

From ₹999/-*

+ 18% GST · no lock-in

ITR-1, also called Sahaj, is the simplest income tax return form, designed for salaried individuals and pensioners. Filing it correctly ensures you claim every deduction you are entitled to and avoid notices for mismatches.

Our experts reconcile your Form 16 with the Annual Information Statement and Form 26AS, compare the old and new tax regimes, and file an accurate, e-verified return on time — all on a fixed fee with WhatsApp-first support.

What ITR-1 (Sahaj) actually is

ITR-1, known as Sahaj, is the income tax return form for resident individuals whose income is straightforward — salary or pension, one house property, and other income such as bank interest — with total income up to ₹50 lakh for the year. It is the form most salaried employees and pensioners in India use to report income for the assessment year and to claim a refund of excess TDS deducted by their employer or bank.

Filing the correct form matters. Using ITR-1 when your income profile does not qualify can lead to a defective-return notice under section 139(9), while the right form filed accurately closes the year cleanly and protects any refund you are due. Our role is to confirm you are eligible for Sahaj, reconcile every rupee against the tax department records, and file under the regime that leaves the most money in your pocket.

Who should file ITR-1 — and who should not

ITR-1 is meant for resident (not ordinarily resident excluded) individuals with income up to ₹50 lakh from salary or pension, one house property, and other sources like interest and family pension. Agricultural income up to ₹5,000 is allowed.

You cannot use ITR-1 if you have capital gains, more than one house property, business or professional income, foreign income or foreign assets, income from lottery or racehorses, are a company director, or hold unlisted equity shares. In those cases we move you to ITR-2, ITR-3 or ITR-4 so the return is valid.

Step-by-step: how your return is filed

  • Collect documents — Form 16, Form 26AS, the Annual Information Statement (AIS) and your bank interest details.
  • Reconcile income and TDS so nothing reported to the department is missed or double-counted.
  • Compute tax under both the old and the new regime and pick the one that saves you the most.
  • Prepare the return, share the computation for your approval, then file it on the income tax portal.
  • E-verify within the 30-day window using Aadhaar OTP, net banking or a pre-validated bank account.

Timelines, due dates and penalties

For individuals who do not require an audit, the due date to file is 31 July of the assessment year. Missing it means a late-filing fee under section 234F — ₹1,000 where total income is up to ₹5 lakh and ₹5,000 above that — plus interest under section 234A on any unpaid tax. A belated return can usually be filed up to 31 December, and a return can be revised within the same window if you spot an error.

Filing on time also protects benefits like carrying forward certain losses and ensures faster refund processing. We aim to file well before the deadline so you are never in the last-minute rush.

Why file your ITR-1 with TCC

We are an experts-led practice — your return is prepared and checked by people who do this every day, not a self-serve form. Frequently asked

Who should file ITR-1?+

Resident individuals with salary or pension income, one house property and other income such as interest, within the prescribed total income limit.

Can I claim both old and new regime?+

You choose one regime per year. We compare both and file under the one that saves you the most tax.

Is e-verification mandatory?+

Yes. A return must be e-verified within the allowed window, otherwise it is treated as not filed. We guide you through it.

Which incomes are not allowed in ITR-1?+

ITR-1 cannot be used if you have capital gains, more than one house property, business or professional income, foreign income or assets, or are a company director. We move you to the correct form (ITR-2/3/4) if so.

What is the due date for filing ITR-1?+

For individuals not requiring audit, the due date is 31 July of the assessment year. Late filing attracts a fee under section 234F and interest under 234A.

Can I file a revised return if I made a mistake?+

Yes. A return can be revised before the end of the assessment year or before assessment is completed, whichever is earlier. We refile at no extra cost for errors on our side.

Is Form 16 mandatory to file ITR-1?+

It helps but is not strictly mandatory. We can compute your income from salary slips, Form 26AS and AIS if Form 16 is unavailable.

What if my TDS does not match Form 26AS or AIS?+

We reconcile your income and TDS with 26AS and AIS before filing to prevent mismatch notices, and follow up with deductors for corrections where needed.
