Why these sit together
Bookkeeping is not the deliverable; the numbers you can act on are. A set of books closed monthly tells you your real gross margin, how long your receivables actually take to arrive, and whether the growth you feel is showing up in the bank. Closed once a year in a rush before the audit, the same books tell you nothing you can still do anything about. That gap is most of what a virtual CFO engagement is for, and it is why a backlog is worth clearing even when the returns are already filed.
The secretarial work sits here for the same reason: it is the register rather than the ledger, but it is the same discipline of keeping a record accurate before someone asks for it. Annual ROC filings, a change of directors, a strike-off done properly rather than by abandonment — each has a form, a window and a penalty for missing it, and each is far cheaper handled on schedule than reconstructed later.
